Where Are the Lumber Jacks When You Really Need Them?

I'm wondering what the first thing I should put on this new blog, considering I have more than 3 years of traveling in my RV with many photographs and stories.  While I have had many strange and wonderful things happen to me, I have decided on an event that happened in Washington last fall.

I had picked up my friend Debbie in Bremerton to camp on a beach near Neah Bay for a week. We have decided to take her truck, since it is already loaded with camping gear. As we put the front wheels of her truck on the dolly, I noticed that her tires were smaller than mine my van's and adjusted the straps.

Route 112 along the coast is a very hilly and curvy road. After driving about two hours, I'd noticed a lurching while driving the RV. We had gotten out and checked to see what is causing the problem. We didn't see a problem. The straps seemed good, but I did not check them closely. So, we started driving again.

After going over a small hill and downhill into a curve I had to brake hard. We heard and felt a sudden clunk. I pulled off to the side of the road very quickly. We got out and looked for the problem. Her truck had come forward off the dolly and was resting on the tow bar with the wheels in front of the dolly's platform.

After checking with her insurance to learn she had no towing coverage, we were wondering what we were going to do. This is a very remote section of the road. There were storage buildings near the road, but no one seemed to be around.

While we were standing there wondering what to do next, a pickup with the crew cab came out of a 2 track across the road. I had the idea of asking them if they knew where we could get a front loader to pick up the front of the truck and move it back onto the dolly platform.

The truck was filled with 6 lumberjacks. As I was telling them our problem, Debbie had followed me across the road. The lumberjacks told me that they didn't know where to get a front loader.  Debbie asked, “last year 6 guys were able to pick up the truck out of the snow and get back on the road. Do you think you guys could move the truck back onto the dolly?”

They replied, “we'll have to look at it.” They drove their truck across the road and parked next the RV. Six of the most muscular men I have ever seen in my life got out of that truck. Their shoulders were so big that they looked like they were in football pads without the pads.

They arrange their selves around the front of the truck. counted to 3, picked up the front of the truck and put it back on the tow dolly. We tried to thank them and get a photograph of them, but they were in their truck so fast and gone, that we never really got a chance.
